La Jolla Shores Ranch Home
One of the oldest homes still remaining in the renowned La Jolla Shores area gets a complete makeover for a family home centered on true coastal living.
A quaint ranch home in the La Jolla Shores neighborhood was acquired by a client looking to create a beach escape for their extended family. The historic home has fantastic 'core' with an accommodating master bedroom addition. Respecting the original 'bones' and fabric of the home, a new wing was added to blend into the overall context of the home's vernacular.
A narrow hallway 'bridge' with cupola brings a focal point and natural light to a transition to the new bedroom wing. A brick fireplace was used to help anchor the new bedroom wing, utilizing brick that mirrors the home's existing materiality.
The preexisting sun porch received new slider doors that augment the home's connection to its new rear yard entertaining spaces that include a custom pool, fire pit seating and dining area.

Wood paneling line the main living spaces, salvaged and reinstalled to maintain the homes historic character. New vibrant bathrooms and bunks rooms provide fresh new areas for large family gatherings.
A new pool and planter wall backdrop was installed as part of the overall site masterplan. All the large specimen trees throughout the property were saved and used as anchor points for the landscape plan. For the sideyard, a custom wash stand and surfboard storage were incorporated to blend with the home's existing aesthetic.
