Sea Lane Spanish

La Jolla, CA

A Herbert Palmer original was purchased by our clients who sought to bring its original details back to life and embrace new features for the young family.

Necessary updates to the main living spaces and bathrooms helped this home in its new lifecycle for a young family.  The home was  originally designed by Herbert Palmer and is organized around two main courtyards that bring privacy from the street along the corner lot.  Dubbed 'La Estrella Del Mar,' the home is steps from the La Jolla coastline.  All the original woodworking elements were salvaged as part of the home's rebuild, including the entry door, wooden stair case and breezeway detailing.  And expanded outdoor seating area and new garage were constructed as part of the site's reconfiguration to bring more of modern lifestyle features to the almost 100-year old structure.

A trellis covered elevated patio provides auxiliary outdoor seating areas.  A hidden roof deck off the second floor master suite became a private retreat to watch the vibrant Pacific sunsets adored by the homeowners for years.
